일(ㄱ)자회 TMCA Sunday Book Club
일(ㄱ)자회는 2022년 토탈미술관 기획전시 《비커밍의 기술(Techniques of Becoming)》 연계 워크숍에서 시작되어, 정기 모임으로 자리 잡은 토탈미술관의 예술 독서 커뮤니티입니다.
매주 일요일에 진행되는 일(ㄱ)자회는 매달 한 권의 도서를 선정해 미술관에 모여 함께 읽고, 각자의 생각을 자유롭게 나누는 방식으로 운영됩니다. 책을 미리 완독한 뒤 정밀한 해석을 공유하기보다, 느슨하고 유연한 대화 속에서 감상과 질문을 함께 확장해가는 모임입니다.
예술가의 창작과 삶에 깊은 영향을 준 책부터, 예술가가 직접 집필한 도서까지, 다양한 도서가 일(ㄱ)자회의 추천 도서가 됩니다. 또한 매달 마지막 일요일에는 ‘야외 읽기’ 프로그램을 통해 여행, 공연, 비엔날레, 사찰 투어 등 다채로운 장소에서 모임을 확장하며, 책과 예술을 매개로 한 공동의 경험을 함께 만들어갑니다.
참석 인원과 읽을 분량, 해석의 방향은 아무것도 정해지지 않습니다. 일(ㄱ)자회는 자유로운 함께 읽기를 지향합니다.

도서 추천 작가 | 이예은 (b.1994)
이예은은 노동자의 삶 속에서 마주한 감정과 경험을 사진을 통해 표현한다. 단순히 장면을 포착하는 것을 넘어, 말로는 쉽게 설명할 수 없는 복합적이고 모순적인 순간들을 담아내는 데 집중한다. 그는 자신 주변 사람들의 삶과 이야기를 따라가며, 노동과 삶이 뒤섞인 하루 속에서 겹치고 흐르는 감정들을 전달한다. 그렇게 쌓인 서사는 자연스럽게 누군가의 삶과 연결되며, 그는 이러한 사진 작업을 통해 ‘너무 늦기 전에’ 서로를 살피고 마음을 건네는 조용한 순간들을 만들고자 한다.
작품을 매개로 안부를 묻는다는 이예은의 작업에 주로 등장하는 인물은 작가 자신이다. 사진을 통해 작가는 스스로가 어떻게 지내고 있는지 보여줌으로써, 이를 공감하는 이들에게 그들은 어떻게 지내고 있는지 안부를 묻는 마음이 가방에 담겨 있다.주요 개인전으로는 《산을 옮기는 겨자씨》(더레퍼던스, 서울, 2023-4), 《227명의 사람들》(BMW Photo Space, 부산, 2022)이 있고, 《뉴-픽쳐스》(더레퍼런스, 서울, 2025), 《불안 해방 일지》(코리아나 미술관, 서울, 2024), 《조심: 손으로 새를 쥐는 마음》(Curator’s Atelier, 서울, 2023) 등의 단체전에 참여했다.

TMCA Sunday Book Club began as a reading workshop held in conjunction with the Total Museum’s 2022 exhibition 《Techniques of Becoming》, and has since evolved into a regular, ongoing reading community hosted by the museum.
Held every Sunday, TMCA Sunday Book Club selects one book each month and gathers at the museum to read and exchange thoughts. Rather than requiring participants to complete the book in advance or offer thorough analyses, the group fosters open-ended and flexible discussions that allow personal impressions and questions to naturally unfold.
Reading selections range from books that have profoundly influenced the lives and practices of artists, to works authored by artists themselves. On the last Sunday of each month, the group expands its scope through an “Outdoor Reading” program, which explores diverse locations such as travel destinations, performances, biennales, and temple tours—creating shared experiences centered around books and art.
There are no fixed rules about attendance, reading pace, or interpretive direction. TMCA Sunday Book Club values the freedom of reading together.

Book Recommended by | Yeeun LEE (b. 1994)
Yeeun Lee articulates the emotions and experiences encountered in the lives of workers through photography. Moving beyond the mere capture of scenes, she concentrates on rendering complex and often contradictory moments that resist easy verbal explanation. By following the lives and stories of those around her, she conveys the overlapping and interwoven emotions that flow through days in which labor and life are inseparably intertwined. The narratives that accumulate in this way naturally connect with the lives of others. Through her photographic practice, Lee seeks to create quiet moments in which, “before it is too late,” we might attend to one another and extend gestures of care.
The artist herself frequently appears as the central figure in her work, which takes the form of inquiring after one’s well-being through the medium of photography. By revealing how she herself has been, Lee metaphorically carries in her bag a message of concern—asking those who resonate with her images how they, too, have been.
Her major solo exhibitions include The Mustard Seed that Moves Mountains (The Reference, Seoul, 2023–4) and 227 People (BMW Photo Space, Busan, 2022). She has also participated in group exhibitions such as New Pictures (The Reference, Seoul, 2025), Anxiety Liberation Journal (Korean Cultural Center Museum / Coreana Museum of Art, Seoul, 2024), and Caution: The Feeling of Holding a Bird in One’s Hands (Curator’s Atelier, Seoul, 2023).
