Total Museum of Contemporary Art, which opened in 1976 as Korea’s first private contemporary art museum, has consistently embraced diverse art genres and supported experimental challenges in contemporary art. Building on this tradition and spirit, we are hosting the fundraising exhibition 《Total Support 2025》 from October 15 to 23 to collaboratively build a sustainable future for the museum.

In 2025, the Total Museum opened the year with the exhibition 《uni form: Broken Twill》. This exhibition, which experimented with new formats for solo shows through core group and invited works, is set to expand its international reach by traveling to Germany this November. This effort to connect Korean contemporary art with the world and realize broad communication in culture and arts follows the momentum from 《The Show Must Go On: Canada》 held at the Korean Cultural Centre in Canada this past April. Domestically, we have been showcasing collection exhibitions in Cheonan and Paju since July, and have expanded the accessibility of contemporary art within local communities by holding solo exhibitions for Pixel Kim and Minsoo Jeong in Geoje-si, Gyeongsangnam-do.

The Total Museum of Art’s educational programs are also continuing apace. The flagship program, 〈Total Academy〉, which has been running for over 30 years, embraces various genres including not only contemporary art but also architecture, music, and dance, expanding the broad contact points of culture and art. Based on this experience, the newly launched 〈Total Seminar〉 in 2024 has been deeply exploring the works of contemporary artists and opening new discourses over the past year. Furthermore, the weekly 〈Monday Salon〉 has surpassed its 400th session, continuing artistic discussions with experts from diverse fields. In addition, the Sunday book club 〈Sunday Book Club〉 has established itself as a community that shares artistic communion through books, and the newly launched 〈AT&D SCHOOL〉 this year is pioneering professional and creative explorations of media art within the format of a ‘school.’

Moreover, 〈Batik Story〉, which began out of a concern for the museum’s social responsibility, is being held this year in collaboration with the Department of Fiber Art and Fashion Design at Hongik University. This project, bringing together students from Korea and Batik artisans from Indonesia, serves as an exemplary case for practicing the sustainability and social value of art.
