개념 예술가 미샤 쿠발은 빛을 매개체로 사용하여 건축 공간뿐만 아니라 사회적, 정치적 담론을 탐구하며, 사회 문화적 구조에서부터 건축적 개입에 이르기까지 다양한 분야를 아우르는 작업을 하고 있다. 그의 작업은 건축사에 있어서 기념비적인 성격과 맥락을 강조하거나 재해석하기도 하는데. 정치적 성향을 가진 참여형 프로젝트들에서는 관객, 작가, 작품 및 공공 공간 사이에 커뮤니케이션을 위한 플랫폼을 제공함으로써, 공공 공간과 사적 공간을 구분할 수 없는 하나의 전체로 통합시키기도 한다.
2007년부터 미샤 쿠발은 쾰른 미디어 아트 아카데미의 공공예술 분야 담당 교수로 재직중이며, 칼스루헤 ZKM미디어 아트 부교수이다. 2015년부터는 노스라인-베스트팔렌 아카데미의 회원이며, 2016년 그는 독일 라이트 상을 수상하기도 했다.

Mischa Kuball 1959 in Düsseldorf
Mischa Kuball, conceptual artist, has been working in the public and institutional sphere since 1977. He uses light as a medium to explore architectural spaces as well as social and political discourses and reflects on a whole variety of aspects from sociocultural structures to architectural interventions as well as emphasizing or reinterpreting their monumental nature and context in architectural history. Public and private space merge into an indistinguishable whole in politically motivated participation projects, providing a platform for communication between the audience, the artist, the work itself and public space.
Since 2007 Mischa Kuball has been a Professor for public art at the Academy of Media Arts, Cologne, and associate professor for media art at Hochschule für Gestaltung/ZKM, Karlsruhe. Since 2015 he has been a member of the North Rhine-Westphalian Academy of Sciences, Humanities and the Arts, Duesseldorf. In 2016 he was honoured with the German Light Award.
