모든 감정으로부터 해탈해 요동치지 않는 고요함과 충만함에 머무는 곳일까, 아니면 기쁨과 환희, 슬픔과 질투, 우울과 감격, 분노와 사랑이 한꺼번에 휘몰아치며 감정의 소용돌이를 에너지 삼아 움직이는 곳일까.

김태협의 작업은 우리가 일상에서 마주하는 감정의 복잡성에 대한 관찰에서 출발한다. 그의 작품에는 서로 다른 감정이 존재하고, 충돌했던 흔적들이 상징적인 이미지로 등장하며 하나의 장면 안에서 시간의 흐름을 어긴 채 공존한다. 강렬한 색채와 만화적인 윤곽선, 반복되는 패턴으로 구성된 화면은 감정의 뒤엉킴을 하나의 질서 속에 배치하며, 복잡성을 만들어내면서 동시에 그것을 정제하고 단순화하는 구조적 아이러니를 드러낸다.

김태협의 개인전 《World.exe: Eden and Its Shadow》는 2014년 작품부터 2025년 최근작까지를 아우른다. 작가가 다층적으로 그려온 감정의 장면들을 하나의 세계로 엮어내며, 김태협의 ‘월드(world)’가 어떤 방식으로 생성되고 실행(exe)되어 왔는지를 따라가 본다.

What kind of place is Eden?
Is it a realm of stillness and plenitude, liberated from all emotion and untouched by disturbance? Or is it a place where joy and ecstasy, sorrow and jealousy, melancholy and elation, anger and love surge all at once—propelled by a vortex of emotions as its driving force?

The work of Kim Taehyup begins with an observation of the complexity of emotions encountered in everyday life. Within his compositions, disparate emotions coexist, and the traces of their collisions emerge as symbolic imagery, inhabiting a single scene while defying the linear flow of time. Constructed through vivid colors, cartoon-like outlines, and repetitive patterns, his pictorial surfaces arrange emotional entanglement into a form of order. In doing so, they reveal a structural irony: while generating complexity, they simultaneously refine and simplify it.

Kim Taehyup’s solo exhibition World.exe: Eden and Its Shadow spans works from 2014 to 2025. Bringing together the multilayered emotional scenes the artist has developed over time, the exhibition weaves them into a singular world, tracing how Kim’s “world” has been generated and executed over time.
